Bill Engels Chief Finance Officer
Bill Engels serves as CFO of New Rhein and manages the firm’s Finance and Operations functions.
Before joining New Rhein, he served as CFO at Apple Tree Partners, a $2.9 billion venture capital firm focused on biotechnology and life sciences. Prior to that, he held senior financial roles at Cohesive Capital Partners, a private equity firm with $1 billion in AUM; Centerbridge Partners, an alternative investment firm managing $26 billion across multiple strategies; and Clarus Ventures, a $1.2 billion venture capital firm specializing in biotech. These roles have equipped him with a solid understanding of fund operations, finance strategy, and regulatory compliance for private funds.
Bill also brings expertise in Biotech VC fund management such as the unique challenges of valuation and portfolio company support associated with biotech VC investmenting. In addition to his leadership roles at these investment firms, Bill served as ad-interim Chief Financial Officer for several portfolio companies, where he played a pivotal role in establishing financial infrastructure, guiding strategic planning, and supporting operational scaling during critical growth phases. Bill’s hands-on involvement ensured seamless integration with parent fund operations and accelerated the development of robust financial systems tailored to the unique needs of early-stage ventures.
